Gerda de Vrij represents an artisanal family business founded in 1976 by Gerda and her former husband Emile Henry. They met each other while studying in Schoonhoven and later specialised their craftsmanship in Pforzheim at the Art and Design Academie.
Antwerp was ideally located right between the home ports of both Gerda and Emile. At that time, the city was already known as highly creative with a heart for design. They found a rustic building in the old centre of Antwerp with two beautiful showcases and the possibility of making a workshop upstairs.
“The building has an authentic atmosphere. Ideal to exhibit our jewellery collection.”
Gerda de Vrij, Barbara Henry, and Emile Henry create the designs. Florence Henry is more active in the commercial aspect. Dirkje Peeters, Lien De Clerq and Katrien De Meester are external allround forces who are largely responsible for the finishing of the jewelry.
“Making jewellery is not only a craft but the core of our soul, a passion.”
Our values
Sustainability is highly valued at Atelier Gerda de Vrij. The jewellery we create is made to last several generations. We do not work around seasons but steadily supplement our collection with new creations.
Antwerp Most Brilliant
Atelier Gerda de Vrij had been awarded with the AMB label in 2023. Antwerp’s Most Brilliant label is only awarded to jewelers who meet strict quality standards, excelling in sustainability, safety, ethics, transparency, service, and business stability.
This prestigious recognition reflects the atelier’s dedication not only to crafting exquisite jewelry but also to maintaining responsible practices that benefit both customers and the community.
Therefore, we prioritize working with Fairmined gold as much as possible, reflecting our commitment to ethical sourcing and sustainability in our jewelry-making practices.
